MARIJUANA LAWS ARE CHANGING IN U.S., & REGULATORY PROBLEMS HAVE TO BE SOLVED
Movies by Cheech & Chong and new cult classics like Pineapple Express suggest that there is some role to be played by marijuana in today's society. Putting aside the definitive "No, there is not," answer, many people and companies are getting themselves all hot and bothered about the possibility of making MONEY growing and selling marijuana. Buyer beware... there are plenty of hurdles to overcome, and the penalties are severe. No matter what your State says or does, the Federal government still outlaws marijuana and has a say in what happens with marijuana dispensation, especially for disease amelioration.
The Legal Quagmire of Marijuana Regulation by Jennifer Villier, Wealth Counsel, is a strong place to startreading about the subject. All of the "Ganja doors" do not lead to a pot of gold....and 420 is not a magic area code.
THE "I KNOW BETTER" PRINCIPLE
Addressing the "I Know Better Principle" is one of the hardest things to do as an attorney. An "I Know Better" client knows exactly what they want to accomplish, but they also want you to subjugate yourself to their words, their actions and their thoughts. In other words, you are to be co-opted and expected to park your professional wisdom and experience, so that the person creating the problem(s) gets to hear themselves talk. In short, a "street lawyer." Sadly, this relationship never works, unless boundaries are establish early and often.
Our firm understands the "sweat equity" put into developing your business, your life and your future. We do not question your resolve, we only attempt to suggest the best way to approach and solve your problems. We care -- an awful lot -- about you and your business, and we only ask that you allow us to do what we do -- act like seasoned professional(s) in a very vexing legal battle field.
Believe in us, and we will believe in you -- success will follow!
"BAD THINGS HAPPEN TO GOOD PEOPLE (OR COMPANIES)."
We've all heard this adage many times over the years; but, can it be true? Absolutely! Although no one attorney can protect you from every troubling circumstance that arises in your personal or business life, an experienced trial attorney can identify the relevant issues that are important to your personal and/or business goals, and assist you in protecting your legal rights. LAW IS BUT THE MEANS; JUSTICE IS THE END!
These days, competent trial attorneys understand that just fighting it out in court may not be the best answer for everyone. They listen to your business needs and goals, and use a variety of dispute resolution methods to accomplish what is in the best interests of you or your company.
Criminal matters require patience, common sense, and a keen eye for prosecutorial hijinks. Many charges hold no water, and a tough attorney convinces the prosecution team that their charges are over the top. Said differently, a good trial attorney pushes for the win at trial, without much fanfare or fright. The burden of proof belongs to the State, not you!
At Mauricio E. Barreiro, LLC, we seek to protect your legal rights and interests, without alienating everyone involved in the decisionmaking process. Rest assured we are always prepared to fight it out for you at trial; however, we believe that a strong commitment to fully understanding the issues presented, and sometimes using the path least traveled -- mutual accommodation for the benefit of all -- may still be the best way to serve our clients' interests.
